Milestones That Shaped Us

Here is how SHEANEY grew from a local start-up into a premier civil and marine engineering partner.

2020

Founded in Newry

16 October 2020: Steven Heaney founded SHEANEY in Newry, Co. Down. He built the business on a simple promise: providing exceptional engineering expertise with direct accountability.

2024

Rapid growth

2024 marked a period of rapid growth. As the team expanded, operational capacity scaled quickly, allowing SHEANEY to successfully manage high-level infrastructure projects, including:

  • On-site project management for dolphin protection piles and bascule bridge foundations for Suffolk County Council.
  • Project management consultancy for the replacement of sluice gates at Hilden and Lambeg weirs for the Department for Infrastructure NI (DfI Rivers).
  • Upgrades to dual slipways in Portaferry and Strangford for the Department for Infrastructure NI.
  • The delivery of modular classroom enabling works and civils packages across five Education Authority school sites.

30 January 2024: The business formalised its commitment to safety by achieving Safe-T-Cert — Construction Industry Federation registration/accreditation, validating the Health and Safety Management System across Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Project Management.

2025

Triple-ISO & Constructionline Gold

30 January 2025: SHEANEY renewed its Safe-T-Cert — Construction Industry Federation accreditation for a second year, reflecting uncompromised site standards.

18 July 2025: SHEANEY became a Constructionline Gold member, opening doors to the UK’s most demanding supply chains.

06 August 2025: The company achieved Triple-ISO Certification in Quality (ISO 9001), Health & Safety (ISO 45001), and Environment (ISO 14001) for infrastructure and marine civil engineering project management.

With a reputation for reliability, major public bodies trusted the business with increasingly complex marine and civic frameworks, such as:

  • On-site project management and marine operations coordination for tubular piling at Dublin Port Berths 52 & 53.
  • Comprehensive marine licence compliance management plans for the Iona Breakwater and Slipway development for Argyll and Bute Council.
  • Managing the complete public procurement exercise for a capital sports facility project on behalf of Newry, Mourne & Down District Council / Dorsey Emmets GFC.
2026

Constructionline Gold maintained

06 July 2026: Demonstrating ongoing operational consistency, SHEANEY successfully maintained its full Constructionline Gold status.

Throughout the year, the business focused on refining internal workflows, expanding professional capabilities, and consistently delivering high-quality project management and civil engineering support across all active frameworks.
